Mountain bike Instructors Award Scheme Certification
MIAS CERTIFICATION Level 3
MIAS Level 3 is designed for experienced riders who wish to progress into leadership and instructional roles, taking on greater responsibility in demanding environments. Through specialised training, participants develop the necessary skills for safe riding and guiding in remote mountain terrain with an increased level of difficulty.

Leader / Instructor Qualification MBL3
The Mountain Bike Instructor Award Scheme (MIAS) MBL3 (Mountainous Terrain) leadership qualification is aimed at MBL2 MIAS guides who wish to upgrade to lead groups in mountain bike activities. This level covers areas defined as mountainous by Mountain training UK.
AALS may require you to hold additional qualifications to work in this terrain (e.g. Mountain Leader, Walking Group Leader or equivalent Military qualifications). Includes Red/Black forest trails.

Leaders should meet the following requirements
Need to be an MBL2 Leader or equivalent for at least one year.
Have led/guided groups in technical terrain (L2) at least 10 times.
Be familiar with advanced riding techniques with drops up to 1metre, technical climbing and descending, roots and rocks.
Be proficient with advanced map reading and use of GPS.
Have at least 5 mountainous rides (L3) logged in their logbook/Strava.
Be able to guide groups beyond 30 mins of cycling assistance.
Have good knowledge of trailside repair and be able to offer advice on bike set up.
As a professional MTB Guide, the holder of the MIAS Award, should also take care of obtaining a First Aid certificate (at least 2-day course).
